Asked for ISO certification by a client or tender?
Contractors, industrial services businesses, engineering and professional services firms and light manufacturers may be required to hold ISO 9001, ISO 14001 or ISO 45001 for some tenders, customer panels or prequalification processes. Most SMEs do not have a full-time systems manager, and running three standards as three separate systems can create duplicated documents and controls.
An integrated management system runs quality, environment and work health and safety through shared business processes, a coordinated risk approach, one audit program and one management review. The objective is evidence that the system is implemented, used and effective in the business.
How the service is structured
IMS gap assessment and roadmap
Review current practice, documents and records against ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. You receive a gap register, a proposed system architecture and a staged roadmap with effort, sequence and responsibilities.
Integrated system build
Develop the IMS scope, integrated policies, process maps, registers and controls as one system rather than three parallel manuals.
Implementation support
Roll the system out with your people: worker consultation and participation, competence and training, document control, environmental and WHS operating controls, customer and supplier controls, and the routines that generate evidence of implementation.
Certification readiness support
Set the internal audit program and impartial audit arrangements, complete management review preparation, and prepare for the certification body's Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits. Where the certification body raises findings, we support the corrective action response.
Ongoing IMS management and improvement
Periodic support to keep the system live: audit cycles, register updates, objectives and KPI review, and improvement actions between surveillance audits.
Stages can be taken individually. Most SMEs start with the gap assessment so the scope, cost and timeline of the full build are known before committing.
Typical deliverables
Risk and obligation registers
Risks and opportunities, environmental aspects and impacts, WHS hazards and risks, legal and other requirements, and worker consultation arrangements integrated into operational decision-making.
Operating controls
Document and record control, customer requirements, supplier and contractor controls, life-cycle considerations, competence and training, emergency preparedness, and nonconformance and corrective action.
Performance and assurance
Objectives and KPIs, customer and operational performance measures, evaluation of compliance, internal audit program and impartiality arrangements, management review preparation, and Stage 1 and Stage 2 readiness.
What to have available
Existing procedures, forms and templates, customer and process requirements, WHS documentation and consultation arrangements, environmental approvals or licence conditions, client or tender requirements naming the standards, incident and complaint records, performance data, and supplier and contractor arrangements.
Partial or inconsistent documentation is normal and does not need to be tidied first. What already works is kept and folded into the system rather than replaced with generic templates.
Current standards and certification boundaries
The IMS can integrate ISO 9001, ISO 14001:2026 and ISO 45001:2018. We confirm the applicable ISO 9001 edition and any transition requirements with your certification body before work is scoped. Their harmonised structure supports a genuinely integrated system, while each standard retains discipline-specific requirements.

Does Aethiro certify our management system?
No. Certification audits and certificates are provided by an independent certification body. Aethiro provides implementation and readiness support. Where Aethiro has designed the system, the internal audit resource and impartiality arrangements are agreed in scope. No certification outcome can be guaranteed.
Can we certify to only one standard now and add the others later?
Yes. The system can be designed as an integrated framework while the initial certification scope covers one or two standards. Adding another standard later can reduce duplicated documentation and implementation effort, but the actual audit scope, timing and cost depend on the organisation and certification body.
How does this relate to carbon and climate reporting work?
An ISO 14001 system handles environmental aspects, obligations and controls; it does not by itself quantify emissions. Where a client also needs emissions data, Carbon Footprint Analysis sits alongside the IMS, and the same document and data controls support both.
